Spicy Southwest Green Chile Tuna Cakes

You will love the spicy flavor in these tuna cakes.

Ever since my father-in-law gave us a can of salmon my husband has been whining for salmon cakes. The problem is I ate that can of salmon long ago. So to make my husband happy I decided to make him some tuna cakes instead. I think salmon cakes can be bland so I decided to add some spice and flavor to the tuna cakes that I was making my husband. Here in the southwest, we like to add spicy flavor to our food with green chile. Green chile is a staple in our house and we always have some in the deep freezer. We like to add green chile to almost anything for great flavor. These tuna cakes are easy to make and are great with guacamole, salsa, or a chipotle mayo.

When I told my husband that I made tuna cakes, he made a face as he thinks tuna in a can is bland. I told him that I discover a new flavorful mercury safe tuna. When I show him what the tuna looked like in the can and told him to taste it, he said you need to buy this tuna again. I discovered  SafeCatch tuna when I went to Shiftcon last year and fell in love with tuna again. I had stopped eating tuna because of the mercury and because most canned tuna looks like cat food and tastes like the can, not true with SafeCatch tuna. I love how the tuna SafeCatch puts in a can is an appetizing piece of tuna steak and it is not swimming in water or oils. In fact, their wild tuna is packed with natural fish oils and nothing else. I like to eat this tuna out of the can as it tastes that good. Oh, also SafeCatch tuna is sustainably caught and loaded with those healthy omega 3's.

           Ingredients

2 (5oz,) cans SafeCatch tuna
1/4 cup diced green chile
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1/3 cup finely chopped red pepper
1/2 cup bread crumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
2 tablespoons oil for frying

DIRECTIONS

Combine all the ingredients except the oil. Scoop out 1/3 cup of tuna mixture to form into patties. In a skillet, cook patties in oil over medium heat for 2 minutes each side or until golden brown. Serve with salsa, guacamole, avocado slices, and/or chipotle mayo. Makes 12.

These seem interesting! My boyfriend and I aren't big fans of tuna, but I'm sure this is a yummy recipe!

I love tuna patties. Your recipe sounds great, I'll try it next time. I usually add onions to mine but I'd like to try the green chile instead.

They look really easy to make! My mom eats a lot of tuna, and I remember seeing Safe Catch on Shark Tank. I like that they go the extra mile to make sure their tuna is safer.

Southwest anything is my weakness! We eat tuna at least once a month and I've never thought to mix this in.

Sounds like a good recipe if you like tuna. Unfortunately I don't, but I could see substituting something else for the tune in this recipe.
