Easy Corn Dog Recipe In The Red Copper 5 Minute Chef

Corn dogs are easy to make in the Red Copper 5 Minute Chef

About a year ago, I received a red football-shaped cooking device and discovered how it made wonderful omelets. I also discovered many readers who love using their Red Copper 5 Minute Chef for easy meals. One reader uses their 5 Minute Chef in their RV while on the road and others use it for eggs. I loved that one reader shared how she makes corn dogs in the Red Copper pan. I just had to make her recipe as it sounded delicious. She simply takes a cornbread mix and hot dogs to make her delicious corn dog recipe. The best part is that these corn dogs are baked, not fried. So it makes corn dogs a bit healthier.

The original Red Copper 5 Minute Chef is no longer available on Amazon but this omelet maker is amazing

Never latch The Red Copper 5 Minute Chef

I am not sure why there is a latch on the Red Copper 5 Minute Chef. When I first used this device, I made the mistake of latching it while cooking eggs as I thought the video that I watched told me to do so. Big mistake! I must have overfilled the cooker or the pressure must have built up inside. When I opened up the Red Copper 5 Minute Chef, it exploded and I had eggs everywhere. So even if you come across directions to latch the red cooker, do not latch it, as it just might explode eggs all over your kitchen.

My boys loved that they could enjoy corn dogs without having to visit the drive-thru place near our house. Since this recipe is a bit healthier, it also means that my boys can enjoy corn dogs more often, especially if I use turkey dogs in the cornbread mix. Sure they may not look like regular corn dogs but they still taste yummy. I can also make this corn dog recipe vegetarian & dairy-free if I use veggie dogs and plant-based milk in the recipe.

To make the corn dogs in the  Red Copper 5 Minute Chef all you need is hot dogs and a package of cornbread mix. If you want to make the cornbread from scratch, you can do that also like I did as I had cornmeal in my pantry. You will also need other ingredients like eggs, oil, and milk if you buy a cornbread mix. Making cornbread from scratch is easy too as all you need is a box of cornmeal and other simple ingredients like baking powder and salt. So if you make a lot of cornbread then buy the ingredients but if you just want to try the recipe, then buy a cornbread mix.

You can even slice the corn dog and add sticks

This Red Copper 5 Minute Chef is so handy in the kitchen
I love using it for quick meals. The other day I made eggs in it and last night, I made my husband a chicken breast to pack in his lunch. The small cooker cleans up so fast too. If you don't have a Red Copper 5 Minute Chef then you should get one. If you want to make baked corn dogs without this red device, then just bake the hot dogs in the cornbread following the directions on your cornbread mix as it still tastes so delicious. My family really loves this healthier way of making corn dogs.

Easy Corn Dog Recipe In The Red Copper 5 Minute Chef

One package of cornbread mix
One package of hotdogs
Additional ingredients listed on the package of cornbread mix

Make the cornbread mix following the instructions on the package. Fill the bottom part of the Red Copper with enough cornbread batter leaving about a half-inch space. Place two hotdogs in the batter and close the lid. Let cook for five minutes. You can also cut the hotdogs into pieces. Repeat the above steps until you use up all the cornbread batter.

I do this exact thing but in a muffin tin. Jiffy cornbread mix, cut up the hot dogs into slices if you want, and even add cheese at times, right into the mix. Bake until golden brown. You can also add a little sour cream to keep them from crowning too much.

I think that this is the very first time I ever saw a corn dog, lol! I have always heard the name for years but I never knew what it was and I was not curious enough to look it up. How does one make a corn dog without a 5 minute chef?
