Eleven Natural Ways to Boost Your Energy Levels

Life can be busy and crazy! We all can use some extra energy!

I received a wellness bracelet to facilitate this post.

We all have those days or weeks that we are tired and just can't seem to find any energy. Most people seem to be reaching for a cup of coffee or an energy drink in the morning to find the needed energy to start there day. The day goes on and then we reach for another caffeinated drink or sugary energy drink so we can get through the day. We are way too depended on these energy drinks. I am not even sure most people can survive without their cup of coffee or energy drink. Society tells us that we need to drink these caffeine drinks to be happy. I can imagine the energy drink manufacturers are making huge profits as there is usually a whole aisle of quick energy drinks and way too many coffee shops. The problem with these quick energy drinks is they are loaded with sugar or dangerous ingredients. The energy never seems to last that long and we have to drink way too many cups of coffee or energy drinks to get through the day.

Break the cycle and discover natural ways to boost your energy
Not only do these energy drinks not give us natural energy but they can also be adding extra calories to our diet and can be the cause of that extra weight. So the next time you reach for that energy drink or that triple latte, try these natural alternatives for better lasting energy.

1. Get more sleep
One of the main reasons you may be feeling drained and tired is a lack of sleep. Getting enough sleep is not always easy. You may be a parent or you may have trouble falling asleep. You may also fight sleep and try to get work done instead of sleeping. Our bodies need sleep to have energy and most people need 6-8 hours a night. Our cell phones and computers can also be reasons why we are not getting enough sleep. Maybe our bed is uncomfortable and it could be time to replace that mattress to a more comfortable mattress or buy a memory foam pillow. I love my memory foam pillow!

2. Get some exercise
One of the best natural ways to get more energy is to get some exercise. I know it does not sound right as one needs the energy to exercise but trust me on this one. You may feel tired but forcing yourself to move will give your body some much-needed energy. I tend to feel tired around 5 PM but that is the time that my husband wants to meet at the gym so I drag myself to the gym and just tell self that I will walk slowly on the treadmill. I start out walking slow but in 5-10 minutes, I start enjoying the music and I pick up the pace. Once I am done with my fitness, I feel more energetic. When I drag myself out of bed in the morning to go running, I am always glad I did as my body and mind have more energy. I also found that upbeat music helps me to want to move. If you are at work, take a fast walk to the bathroom or to the water cooler.

3. Stay Hydrated
Dehydration can affect your brain function, mood, and energy levels. Sometimes increasing your fluid intake may give you some much-needed energy. Don't wait until you are thirsty and instead drink water throughout the day. If you are feeling tired, try drinking a glass of water first before you reach for that energy drink. In the summertime, your body needs more water as you lose more fluid through sweating. Not a fan of water? Try some fruit-infused water or some herbal cold-brew iced tea.

4. Eat a Nutritious Diet
Feeding your body nutritious will help it to have more energy.  A diet that has processed foods high in sugar and fat, may be affecting your energy levels as well as your health. These type of foods have empty calories and your body needs healthy calories for energy. Try starting your day with whole grains as whole grains will give you lasting energy instead of quick energy from a bowl of sugar-loaded cereal. It’s also important that you eat enough food to fuel yourself during the day. Extreme dietary restrictions can result in a lack of both calories and essential nutrients, such as iron, which can negatively affect your energy levels.

5. Avoid added sugar
When you feel tired, it can be easy to reach for a sweet, sugar-filled snack. However, although sugar can give you a short-term energy boost, it will wear off quickly. This is because high-sugar foods cause your blood sugar to rise quickly and before you know it, your body will have a sugar crash. Think about a child who has had too much sugar and how they are full of energy but later becomes tired or crabby. That is what sugar does to your body.

6. Avoid excess caffeine
Coffee can be a healthy drink as it is loaded with antioxidants but it should not be a substitute for things like sleep, exercise, and a healthy diet. I don't need a cup of coffee to wake up and instead drink my coffee for enjoyment and health benefits after I had my healthy breakfast. My favorite way to start the day is with a nutritious smoothie made with superfoods. I do not avoid caffeinate drinks but rather use them to enhance my workout. When I exercise first thing in the morning or when I want to work on speed, I will drink a natural energy drink. I don't like running on a full stomach in the morning and I find that a natural energy drink gives me the energy that I need to run. By the time my workout is over, my body has burned off the caffeine and has started producing natural energy that one gets from exercise.

7. Reduce stress
People with busy lives or moms who have kids tend to feel stressed, anxious or overwhelmed. It can seem hard to reduce stress but stress can take a toll on the body and make you feel drained and tired. Look for ways to handle stress. It can be cutting things out of a busy schedule or taking a few minutes to meditate. Sometimes going for a walk can help with stress. If you don't have time for any of these, try taking some deep breaths, stretching, or counting slowing to ten. Even listening to calm music may help, especially if the stress is a screaming kid. When my boys were younger and were having a tantrum, I found that calming myself down with deep breaths helped me to be able to calm them down.

8. Listen to music
Music is a powerful thing and listening to an upbeat, fast song can give you so much needed energy. When I am feeling tired and need to get some work done on the computer, I put on my headphones and listen to my favorite music and it gives me the energy that I need.

9.Wear an energy sports bracelet
I am trying out a bracelet that helps boost one's energy with the earth’s natural frequency. I am not sure how this stylish, comfortable energy sports bracelet works but it features a unique Natural Frequency Disc that is designed to promote energy, increase performance and improve focus. This wellness bracelet is designed to help your body get in sync with the earth’s natural frequency. I have been wearing the wellness bracelet for 2 weeks and while I can't say that I have incredible energy when I place the wellness bracelet on my wrist, I have seen an amazing change in my running. I still have to warm up my lungs, the joys of exercising with asthma but once I open up my lungs, I am able to run so much longer without feeling the need to take walking breaks. The first week that I wore the wellness bracelet, I had more energy when running. I was able to run a full mile before I had to walk, something I have not done for a long time. By the 2nd week of wearing the bracelet, I was running for two miles and then took a minute walk break before I ran another two miles. I am amazed at how well I am doing with my running. My husband says that it is all in my head and not the wellness bracelet but I think the wellness bracelet has made the difference in my performance. I told my husband that he should give the energy sports bracelet a try when we go to the gym but then again, I am not sure I want to share the sports bracelet with him as then I would not have it for my gym time.

When I do not have the sports bracelet on, I have less energy. Yesterday I decided to go a whole day without the bracelet and by the afternoon, I was lacking energy. I actually felt like I needed coffee to get anything done, that is so not like me. I like the way the energy sports bracelet looks on my wrist so I will keep wearing it to see if it further helps to increase my performance with my running. This page explains how energy sports bracelet works.

10. Be Social
Hanging out by yourself can be a good thing but being sociable can do wonders for your mood and energy. Think of a time you were bored and all you wanted to do was take a nap. Then think of a day that you hung out with friends, I bet you did not feel tired. Getting out of the house and mingling with other people can be great for your energy. Call up a friend and plan a social activity. If you have young kids at home, join a mom's club or head to the park. Just getting out of the house and going for a walk or going to the store can be great ways for some social interaction. If you are stuck at work, just get up from your desk and taking a quick chit chat break can boost your energy. When I am out running, I always make a point to say "good morning" to everyone that I see, even construction workers. When they say something back, it always makes me feel more energetic and happy!

11. Have a snack
If you are feeling tired, try a snack that is loaded with carbohydrates. Good choices in snacks for lasting energy are fruit, dried fruit, and whole grains. I like to make a batch of energy Blueberry Lemonade Energy Bites or Vegan Chocolate Dipped Salted Caramels for my healthy snacks that give me amazing energy. These two snacks have the carbs for energy and also protein which is great for your muscles.

Will you try some of these natural ways?

Thankfully, I made the decision many years ago to not really on coffee, tea, energy drinks or other stimulants to boost my energy. I prefer to get a good night's sleep instead. The sports energy bracelet does sound intriguing and I wonder if there are any side effects.

Staying hydrated, getting enough sleep and exercising consistently tend to do the trick for me. If I get any less than 8 hours of sleep I swear I am a ZOMBIE the next day, I have no idea how some people pull all nighters regularly and still seem to function normally!
