You are responsible for another human’s life, and that means that for the first couple of years at least, you are at their beck and call. It sounds scary when it’s put that way, but it needn’t be. Host games nights, movie nights and other such occasions where you know that you will easily be able to check on your child if you haven’t got alternative care for them. This stage will be over before you know it and they’ll be going out and doing their own thing, so embrace it while it lasts - as arduous as may seem at the time, it could grow to be something that you love and will eventually miss.
