Looking to add some heat to your favorite hummus recipe? It is as simple as using this delicious tahini made with Harissa.

My favorite plant-based snack is hummus and crackers. Hummus is a creamy dip that hails from the Middle East and has a reputation as clean, healthy food. It deserves it. All the main ingredients are superfoods in their own right. Most traditional hummus recipes are made with chickpeas, sesame paste (tahini), garlic, and olive oil. All these ingredients are healthy foods and some of them ~ chickpeas and tahini ~ are loaded with protein. So grab a bowl of hummus and get snacking!

Hummus is:

+ Healthy

+ Plant-Based

+ Loaded with protein

+ Vegan

+ Made with superfood ingredients

+ Delicious

+ A perfect party food

+ Can be made in many flavors

+ Gluten-free

+ Dairy-free

+ Allergy-friendly

What is tahini?

Making homemade hummus is super easy and once you learn how you may never buy store-bought hummus. The main ingredient to this delicious Middle Eastern spread is chickpeas and tahini. Tahini is a creamy nutrient-rich spread made from sesame seeds, making it an allergy-friendly spread for those who have nut allergies. Tahini is also the perfect food for Passover and this delicious spread can be used in so many recipes. I love using sesame seeds in my homemade honey sunflower seed butter

My favorite tahini is all-natural, squeeze-and-serve tahini made by Mighty Sesame. Mighty Sesame Tahini is the best tahini that you can buy. Their squeezable bottle makes it easier than ever to add tahini to everything from dressings and dips to meat and veggies. With no stirring required, the sesame seed tahini is packed with protein and contains 260mg of calcium per serving.  Mighty Sesame is also organic, vegan, gluten- and dairy-free, OU kosher, and halal.

Add heat and zip to traditional hummus

When I discovered that Mighty Sesame added a harissa flavored tahini to their brand, I had to try it in my favorite hummus recipe. This new variety contains a blend of 100% natural harissa spices for a distinctively aromatic flavor profile with a kick. You can buy this amazing Harissa tahini on Amazon.

What is harissa?

Harissa is a paste made by blending roasted hot red peppers with other spices and herbs. This spicy paste is popular in Israeli, Moroccan, and Tunisian. This fragrant chili paste adds awesome flavor and heat to your favorite foods. So I knew that harissa flavored tahini would add a nice flavorful kick of heat to my homemade hummus recipe.

Ingredients needed for Hummus

+ Chickpeas or garbanzo beans

+ Tahini

+ Lemon juice

+ Garlic

+ Salt

Hummus is super simple to make and only requires a few ingredients. The main ingredient is chickpeas or garbanzo beans. You can use a can of chickpeas or dried chickpeas that you cooked. I like using canned chickpeas and I always have several cans in my pantry. I also keep a container of dried garbanzo beans in my pantry for a backup source for when I run out of canned chickpeas. Cooking dried chickpeas is super easy and you can make them quickly in the pressure cooker. Here is a recipe for cooking chickpeas in the pressure cooker.

When I cook my garbanzo beans in the instant pot, I always make extra so I can make my delicious vegan tuna recipe. This plant-based recipe looks and tastes just like tuna salad but contains no real tuna so it is a perfect vegetarian recipe for a meatless meal. You have to try this recipe!

Super easy to make

Hummus is super easy to make and can be made in under 5 minutes! You simply place all the ingredients in a blender or food processor and blend for 2 minutes. This delicious vegan dip is ready to eat. I like to eat my spicy Harissa hummus with raw veggies like carrots, red peppers, and celery. I also like spreading my hummus dip on crackers and pita bread. This spicy dip also makes a wonderful spread for sandwiches. My most favorite way to enjoy this Spicy HARISSA Hot Chili Hummus is on a snack board. I place the hummus in a small bowl and place it on a plate. To that plate, I add raw, veggies, crackers, and olives, making it a delicious snack or meal.
